Hosting a course

We are so excited to share our knowledge! 

The classes: 

The full-day Canine Health and Emergency First Aid class is an average of 7 hours in length and costs $159 per student. It is recommended for ages 10 and up.

 The I Can Help children’s course is an average of 3 hours and costs $59 per student. It is recommended for ages 5-9 however older children are welcome to attend.

Some guidelines: 

While we would love to have each student bring their own dog to learn on, we cannot accommodate this unless we are working with a dog group where all the dogs are familiar with each other and have space to exercise and rest away from the class during the discussion portions (ie a doggie daycare that they play together daily, family members whose dogs know each other well and are friendly).

This is for the safety of all dogs and participants. 

The canine first aid trainer will bring their own dog, or can work with the hosts dog(s), provided they are well conditioned to being handled by other people, non-aggressive and likely to be a willing participant for demonstrations such as taking vital signs, bandaging, muzzling etc. This is at the discretion of the trainer. 

Courses using only DVK9 provided ‘dummy’ dogs can easily be accommodated if needed. 

What we provide – full day Canine Health and Emergency First Aid course: 

1. A Canine Health Canada certified trainer. All trainers have extensive canine backgrounds and are highly experienced in canine health and emergency first aid. 
2. All learning materials - demo dogs, ‘dummy’ dogs, wound gel, bandages, gauze, cotton roll, polo wraps, leashes, triangle bandages, vet wrap, thermometers, stethoscopes, etc. 
3. Coffee, water and snacks. Lunch is not provided. 
4. Comprehensive 130+ page canine health and emergency first aid reference manuals for all attendees. 
5. Canine first-aider wallet-sized identification card (with canine vital signs on reverse). 
6. Frameable certificate of completion for each attendee. 
7. Diamond Valley K9 First Aid/CHC offers one free space to the host with a minimum of 9 paid attendees. One additional free spot may be offered with 15 or more paid attendees.

What we provide – Children’s I Can Help course:

1. A Canine Health Canada certified trainer. All trainers have extensive canine backgrounds and are highly experienced in canine health and emergency first aid. 
2. All learning materials - ‘dummy’ dog, wound gel, bandages, gauze, cotton roll, polo wraps, leashes, triangle bandages, vet wrap, thermometers, stethoscopes, etc. 
3. Water and allergy-friendly snacks. 
4. I Can Help kids first aid booklet. 
5. Frameable certificate of completion for each attendee. 
6. Diamond Valley K9 First Aid/CHC offers one free space to the host with a minimum of 5 paid children. One additional free spot may be offered with 10 or more paid children. 

What we require from a Host: 

1. Indoor location with ample space for the attendees. This can be a living room, classroom, or otherwise. Obviously, space requirements is dependent on the number of students. Each Trainer can identify their minimum number of students required for a go-no go for each class. We can accommodate a maximum of 20 students, provided space is available. 
2. There is a PowerPoint component. If no space for the PowerPoint is available, we can use handouts – please let us know at the time of booking. 
3. A non-refundable deposit of $159 ($59 for children’s class) is required to hold the date. This will be deducted from the final balance or applied to one enrollment. An invoice for the deposit will be sent separately. 

If the host is collecting registrations, the final balance of $159.00 per person ($59 per child for the I Can Help class) is due 7 days prior to the course date, as well as a list of attendees (for certificates and course materials). Registrations may be transferred from one person to another. Last minute registrations can be accommodated provided there is still space available. 

If the host prefers, students can register directly with the trainer. 

We will make EVERY effort to ensure that hosting is possible for everyone and is an enjoyable, effortless experience. We guarantee all students will leave our classroom with a new level of confidence in dealing with possible emergencies and health concerns their dogs may encounter.
